I don’t think I’ve ever felt so simultaneously nerve wracked and thrilled as when Country Style asked me to submit an original recipe for their 2013 Christmas issue. After a lot of pondering, testing and therapeutic wine drinking, here ‘s what I came up with…a rose petal trifle with rhubarb compote!
The recipe is included in a feature about us that was the most ridiculous amount of fun to plan for and be part of, almost as good as Christmas itself. A huge thank you to Victoria Carey, editor of Country Style, Virginia Imhoff for being so lovely to talk with, to Lisa Cohen for her amazing photography (that trifle picture!) and general unflappability, and Heather Nette King for her gorgeous styling and good humour. Thank you also to my dear friend Cheryl for being a calm head on a crazy day, for always being able to find what we were looking for…and for that trifle bowl!
I hope you enjoy the story, and the pictures. I love them very much because I think they capture that elusive blend of planning and spontaneity, the grasping the spirit of the day as it unfolds, that is one of the many joys of the shared table.
